Abstract

This study examines the ethical and human rights dimensions in handling vulnerable groups of women facing divorce, domestic violence (KDRT), and child custody disputes at PBHI Yogyakarta, from the perspective of Islamic Guidance and Counseling (BKI). Using a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews with the Head of Non-Litigation at PBHI Yogyakarta, this study finds that these three case types dominate PBHI referrals and are consistently accompanied by severe psychological distress evidenced by the fact that approximately 80% of clients have experienced suicidal ideation. Women victims of domestic violence face layered barriers including the risk of nusyuz accusations, evidentiary difficulties, and inner conflict between religious values and legal rights. Child custody disputes post-KDRT are further complicated by the absence of systematic psychological support for children and parents. This study asserts the urgency of integrating Islamic counselors into the legal aid ecosystem as holistic recovery agents capable of bridging the legal, psychological, and spiritual dimensions of clients’ needs.
